Reforms with large impact on the US public education system are in New York, Chicago, Baltimore and Washington. A team of field researchers from the Fernand Braudel Institute and the Itaú Social Foundation verified, during a month-long period in each city, the improvements in education systems as a result of each city’s constant pursuit of and political support for achieving reform goals and institutional changes. This research, part of the education management program, is the result of a partnership between the Itaú Social Foundation and the Fernand Braudel Institute of World Economics.
The São Paulo government and other Brazilian city and state governments are promoting efforts to improve the public education system, though they are struggling with institutional barriers, legal, labor, and economic issues that have also threatened reforms in the United States.
This seminar analyzed innovations within the US public education system and explored how cities confronted these institutional blockades. This seminar was specifically directed towards school managers (principals, directors, etc.) from private and public institutions, NGOs and researchers in the field of education.
