Fernand Braudel, historiador

When he died in 1985 Fernand Braudel was undoubtedly the world’s most influential professional historian. His reputation was founded on a magnificent 1, 100-page book published in 1949 entitled La Méditerranée etle monde méditerranéen a l’époque de Philippe II; and his eminence was later consolidated by editorship (1956-68) of the journal Annales: Economies Sociétés, Civilisations, and at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris where a vigorous group of young historians formed around him the famous Annales school.
