The French historian Fernand Braudel, who lived from 1902 to 1985, is one of the most important historians of the twentieth century. His work on the Mediterranean during the reign of Felipe II is a landmark in historiography. He also is well known for his world history of fifteenth to eighteenth century capitalism and material life.
